Most insurance companies give a 1 star rating to new drivers. If a student has a driver training certificate, they'll give the driver a 3 star. The driver will keep this star rating for 3 years and will increase by 1 star for every year they are claim free. However, once a driver puts in an at fault claim, they go down to a zero star. Depending on many factors, a person could save around $200/year in the first 3 years by having a driver training certificate.
